The Hypocrisy Behind the Suspension of Terry Moran

So Terry Moran gets suspended. Why? Because he said something critical—something honest—about Stephen Miller and Donald Trump. Not fabricated. Not slander. But commentary, grounded in behavior that millions of Americans have already observed. And yet, that moment of candor—delivered in words far more thoughtful than the average soundbite—was deemed a violation of “journalistic objectivity.”

Let’s be honest: this isn’t about standards. It’s about power.

Where was this so-called “objectivity”?

  • When Donald Trump called Nikki Haley “birdbrain,” or hurled insults at veterans, judges, journalists, and even members of his own cabinet?

  • Where were the cries for suspension when JD Vance called critics of Trump’s immigration policies “morally bankrupt degenerates”?

  • Or when press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who now calls Moran “unhinged,” cheered on Trump’s personal attacks like it was a WWE match?

These same voices are now demanding decorum? Spare me the sanctimony.

This is not a journalism problem—it’s a societal fracture, and both political tribes are guilty. We’ve become so polarized that we no longer recognize the difference between critique and character assassination. Anyone saying something outside of your ideological echo chamber? Canceled. Fired. Suspended. That’s the new playbook.

And let’s get real about something else: news is a business.

  • It’s not some sacred institution above the economic fray.

  • ABC, CNN, Fox, MSNBC—these are for-profit enterprises.

  • That’s why you can’t watch five minutes of coverage without a commercial break.

  • They exist to monetize attention. And if controversy sells, objectivity gets shoved in a back closet while ratings take the front seat.

So why pretend?

Let’s drop the illusion that there’s such a thing as “pure objectivity.”

  • Humans are not neutral machines.

  • Every journalist—every person—sees through the lens of their lived experience, their upbringing, their beliefs.

  • What seems “objective” to one viewer is “biased propaganda” to another.

  • It’s always been this way. It always will be.

The only solution? Embrace it. Don’t silence it.

Let the left speak. Let the right speak. And let the people decide.

When you silence dissent—whether it comes from a news anchor, a protestor, or a political opponent—you’re not protecting democracy. You’re strangling it.

This is America. We are the last great nation where free speech still (barely) survives. But only if we stop acting like fragile tyrants afraid of words.

  • Calls from the right to fire someone on the left should be ignored.

  • Calls from the left to silence someone on the right should be ignored.

  • And the principle that should override both? The First Amendment.

If you’re a journalist in this game, you need independence.

  • If your corporate overlords can’t handle that, let them fire you.

  • Someone else will pick you up—someone who still believes that journalism should speak to power, not apologize for it.

And to Terry Moran directly:

You’ve paid your dues. You’ve covered war zones and walked the halls of the White House. You’ve interviewed prime ministers, generals, and presidents. You’re smart. Studied. Principled. You don’t need to wait around for Disney or ABC to find their moral compass—or their courage.

Leave.

Walk out on your own terms.

Go to CNN.

Go independent.

Start a podcast.

Repost the tweet they suspended you for. Say it again louder.

Because here’s the truth:

Freedom doesn’t mean safe speech. It means honest speech. And that includes calling hate what it is. Even when it wears a suit and works in the West Wing.

So Terry—if you’re reading this—don’t back down. Don’t apologize. Don’t wait. Go where your voice can’t be muzzled. And as for ABC?

Tell them to kiss your press credentials.
